Welcome to 2018! As we ring in the new year we hope that everyone had a safe and happy 2017 holiday season. January 4th is National Spaghetti Day. Grab a big bowl, fill it with spaghetti, top it off with a generous helping of your favorite sauce and dig in. And don’t forget the meatballs and grated cheese.
The most recent meeting of the HOA Board of Directors was held in the ballroom on November 14th, 2017. Here are a few highlights from that meeting; Richard Loar presented and briefed the Board on the 2018 budget that was mailed to the community. The Board voted and unanimously accepted the 2018 budget as proposed. In October, Mackenzie Mack from the First Tee Program of Tampa made a presentation to the golf committee with hopes of our community inviting the First Tee Program to our golf course. The golf committee recommended to the board that we allow the First Tee Program to be part of our community. At the November board meeting Mackenzie returned and made a presentation to the Board. The program not only teaches golf, it spends a lot of time teaching 9 core values such as honesty, integrity and respect as well as 9 healthy habits based on physical, emotional and social development. The board voted unanimously to bring the First Tee to the Groves and the program will start sometime in January. There was discussion held on the possibility of discontinuing the use of our cable channel 95. The issue was tabled for further research and discussion.
On December 1st and 2nd Bob McChesney of Premier Drone Productions completed the drone video shooting of our golf course. Bob has provided us with approximately 3 hours of raw footage. His company will be producing a 15 and 30 second commercial style video as well as a 3 to 4-minute video of the course and amenities. The final products should be ready this month for inclusion on our website as well as other marketing endeavors. We will be working with Clare Knight and the communications committee to ensure that the information is available for all our residents to view.
The golf course is in great shape going into January. Drew and his crew from ABM have worked hard to get the course in shape for the busy season. Richard Moore’s efforts in the Pro-Shop are starting to show positive results. As he continues these efforts into 2018 we should certainly start to see an upswing in revenues. I would like to take this opportunity to not only thank Richard but to thank all his staff for a job well done, keep up the good work. We are also in the final stages of completing an updated position description and contract for the position of golf teaching professional, once the documents are finalized we will begin to interview certified teaching professionals who can offer lessons to all golfers at all levels of play. The teaching professional should be in place sometime after the first of the year so if you are interested in taking lessons please stay in touch with the pro-shop as they will be the first to know and have all the details.
