Protecting Fido from the Heat
Posted on July 12, 2018 by Webmaster
Living here in Central Florida certainly has its ups and downs.  When the weather is cooperative, we can almost say we live in perfect conditions.  When the weather turns, ah...., that's another story.
Now that we are in the midst of summer heat, it is a perfect time to remind all dog owners to be aware of the temperature of the sidewalks.  We all love to walk with our best friend at our side, but please be mindful of the temperature and only walk when it is safe to do so.  The following chart is a harsh reminder of just how hot our sidewalks can become once the sun is up:
                                               Air Temperature                 Sidewalk Temperature
                                                        76                                          125
                                                        86                                          135
                                                        87                                          143
At 125 degrees, skin destruction can occur in just 60 seconds.  Always check the asphalt before allowing your best friend to walk on it.
If you can't walk on the asphalt in your bare feet, neither can your dog!
